Trivia Edit

  • Monstrap has the highest base HP stat of all non-legendary Dark-type Pokémon.

Design OriginEdit

Monstrap and its evolution line reference the "This is bait" fish, and, by extension, the popular Internet phrase "gr8 b8 m8". It may also reference "clickbait", a term used to describe a video with a misleading thumbnail used to attract attention and views. This is further supported by the design of the hook on its tail, which resembles a female human, drawing parallels to how much "clickbait" features images of conventionally attractive women. The word "bait" is also used as a synonym for "troll", which may have inspired its monstrous appearance and face, which marginally resembles the Troll Face.

Name OriginEdit

Monstrap is a combination of monster and trap, referring to its fishing hook.
